Character Name: Marlene Eliza McKinnon Age/Birthdate: 20 / April 5, 1960 Wand: 13 Inch Tulip Wood with a Griffon Feather Bloodline: Pureblood Why this character: I’ve only played one Marauders era character and I figured it was time to play another. What is said about your character on the lexicon? If you changed canon facts, what did you change? “A member of the Order of the Phoenix in the 1970s, Marlene and her whole family were killed by Voldemort's supporters, including Travers shortly before Voldemort’s downfall. Died July 1981.” - Directly out of the Lexicon Look at the available/taken list and put which characters (at least ten names) that your character would interact or be familiar with: Sirius Black, James Potter, Lily Potter, Remus Lupin, Alice Longbottom, Frank Longbottom, Regulus Black, Hargid, Gideon Prewett, Fabien Prewett, Edgar Bones PB: Katherine Heigl (via Roswell) Sexual Orientation: Straight. She’s never really dated anyone, seeing as she figured there would be time after the war for things like that. But she has had a few crushes, not that anyone would know. Personality: Marlene McKinnon is a true Hufflepuff. To her friends and loved ones, she is loyal and willing to die for them (which in fact happened). She can be a bit of a motherly type with her friends, and likes to make sure they’re safe and well taken care of. Be it by cooking for them or listening to their problems. She loves to be around people, especially family, which is why after school she continued to live with her family. She can be rather clever when she needs to be, always working out strategies which she used often in the order. Growing up with two older brothers, Marlene picked up a few tomboy habits. She’s very loud, even when trying not to be, which led to a lot of detentions for talking during class. Also they saying ‘swearing like a sailor’ applies to her. When she’s frustrated she swears horribly, but other than that she mostly keeps the swear words under control. Family: Mother - Lorelei McKinnon (nee Gates) - Hufflepuff Alumni - Lorelei was a loving housewife who often spent time watching her children. When the war started, Lorelei started watching other peoples children running a free daycare. Father - William McKinnon - Ravenclaw Alumni - William was a grown child who, when not working, was knowing for starting water fights and such. At work he was seen as very high profile ministry working, making himself a large threat. Older Brother - Jacob McKinnon - Ravenclaw Alumni - Jacob was four years older than Marlene. Jacob was always a bit over protective of his younger siblings. Marlene learned early on not to mention boys around him, or else she would receive a long lecture on how men were only after one thing. It amused Marlene more than anything to see Jacob act protective. But it was nice to know that he care. Sister In Law - Annie McKinnon (nee Dorkin) - Muggleborn Ravenclaw Alumni - Marlene loves Annie like her own sister. At first she was hesitant about anyone being good enough for Jacob, but after getting to know her, she learned that Annie was perfect for him. She was pregnant when she died, the only person who knew was Marlene. Older Brother - Austen McKinnon - Hufflepuff Alumni - Three years older than Marlene. Being that they were in the same house and near the same age, Austen and Marlene were close. Austen is the person Marlene goes to for advice because unlike Jacob, who would suggest locking her away till she’s 35, he actually gives good advice, even if he doesn’t want to. Younger Sister - Leah McKinnon - Ravenclaw Alumni - Leah was two years younger than Marlene. Marlene and Leah were close, not only because they were two girls, but they were also the closest in age. Younger Brother - Toby McKinnon - Hufflepuff - Toby was five years younger than Marlene. Marlene often showed favoritism to Toby because he was young and in her mind needed protecting. Personal History: To say the McKinnon’s were anything but close, would be a lie. Lorelei and William set the perfect example of the perfect couple, always wanting to be next to each other, giving each other small touches just because they could. Jacob was the typical older brother, always looking out for his younger siblings. Austen was a curious kid, always getting his siblings to join him in his wild escapades. Leah was a bookish child, always with a book in her hand. Toby was the youngest, always following his older siblings around wanting to imitate them to the best of his ability. Then, of course, there was Marlene. Marlene was always doing something. She loved to be around animals, and even owned a few animals herself. At a young age she loved to read about magical creatures and charms associated with them. When she wasn’t playing with the animals, she could be found playing tag or quidditch or some other activity. The McKinnon kids were all very close, and very friendly not just with each other, but will most of the other kids they came in contact with. Unfortunately, one by one the McKinnon kids left for Hogwarts. When it was Marlene’s turn, she was overly excited. She had spent the night before bouncing on everyone’s bed, telling anyone who would listen (which mostly meant her parents, her siblings’ mostly just threw whatever was nearest at her claming they wanted to sleep). Once on the train, her brothers went off their own ways leaving Marlene to figure out things for herself. It didn’t take her long to find an available seat in a very full car. It was then, Marlene knew that she was going to fit in just fine at Hogwarts. When it came time for sorting the hat took two minutes to decided between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. But while she was very brave, her loyalty extended even further. In classes, Marlene was very studious most notably in Charms and Care Of Magical Creatures. When she wasn’t working on her homework, one of her favorite things was to go talk with Hagird and listen to him tell her about all sorts of creatures that she only briefly heard of. In her fifth year, she decided to try out for Quidditch. She liked the feeling of being part of the group. But Quidditch was second to her school work. She was very bright in Charms and Care of Magical Creatures. After Hogwarts, Marlene joined the Order with encouragement from Hargid and her family. In addition to the Order, she got a job at Magical Menagerie. She felt she needed to be around to help out with the war, but afterwards she planned on going off to study magical creatures. Despite earning enough money to buy her own flat, she continued living with her parents, not wanting to leave what she considered the safety of her home. The war scared her, and she lost many of her friends, but that never stopped her. On July 23, 1981, however, Marlene was stopped. It was two in the morning, and Marlene had just come home and her and Austen were in the kitchen having a late night snack while discussing the war when suddenly there was a sound of breaking and the knowledge they weren’t alone. Marlene had let out a scream, part out of fear, part in hope of waking up her family. Austen shouted that he was going to go get Jacob and Annie and their parents, who at the time were sleeping in their own rooms. Marlene ran to get Toby, who was too young to apparate. When she got to the room, he was already dead, two Death Eaters standing over him. Marlene quickly shouted out a few curses, but the killing curse kit her from behind before she could even think to duck. OOC.
